When running an agility course it is imperative that you dog is looking where he is going otherwise he may hurt himself on an obstacle. He is going to run faster too! This exercise how to teach your dog to look at the obstacle in front of them rather than look at you.
Here is G Force when he was less than 5 months old. For this exercise I’m using the clicker to mark and reward every time he looks forward toward the toy. You can see towards the end the he is getting the idea as the clicks are happening faster. I also moved the toy closer to make it more obvious to him.
It is important that he is sitting facing the jump so if he moves I simply use my hands to direct him back to the correct position. I don’t need to touch him or force him to move.
