Collars are great for displaying registration and ID tags but a pulling dog can cause damage to their neck, trachea and glands. Harnesses are my preferred option when walking your dog on a lead as it removes that pressure form the neck and disperses it across the chest.
My favourite harness is the True Love brand and dogs find it comfortable to wear. Echo is modeling hers below.
I find this style harness much easier to put as I don’t have to lift my dog’s leg.
PLEASE Do take your time to teach your dog to accept having the harness put on. Dogs do not like the harness being pushed over their head, so instead train your dog to push their head through the harness! It makes like easier for everyone!
In this video I am training Rita (a friend’s dog) to push her head through the neck hole. She doesn’t like her harness so I am taking my time and offering her a choice to put her head through.
