The Front Cross is a move made by the handler to change the direction of the dog and is executed facing the dog. If your ‘team’ understands the foundation exercises of ‘switching sides’ and the figure 8 exercise with pool noodles, this demonstration should make sense. The diagram below should help break it down.
A – You need to be in front of your dog to give him time to see the cue.
B – Your dog on the left side and you will need to make a 1/4 turn to your left stepping forward on your right. Your dog should realise that this is NOT the cue to continue running past you!
C – Your second step is about a 1/4 to 1/2 turn left while stepping left. Note that you are now facing your dog. This should definitely be a cue to your dog to come towards you. This is the time to cue your dog with your Right Hand so your dog will know to stay our your right side.
D – Your third step is forward with your right to the jump. Your dog should be following your right hand as you approach the jump. Keep running!
